New Zealand (South Island) – Te Anau & Milford Sound

Next stop: Te Anau & Milford Sound

We left Queenstown really early at 6.30am as we need to catch our noon cruise at Milford Sound. Total journey from Queenstown to Milford Sound via Te Anau is approximately 4.5 hours drive (306km). Te Anau serves as a mid-point between Queenstown and Milford Sound, hence we stayed overnight at Te Anau after the cruise. Do remember to top-up your fuel tank to full when at Te Anau as there is no petrol station until Milford Sound.

On our way to the Milford Sound, you will realised how incredibly beautiful the landscape around the fiord is. We made a few stops such as the famous Mirror Lake and Hollyford Valley lookout point. Lookout for the kea too, they are the largest wild parrots which are commonly found in south New Zealand, they can be pretty playful and mischievous.

Hooray, we are sailing out to the sea on a sunny day!
Statistically, Milford Sound rains on an average of 185 days year round, and we are really fortunate that we had sunshine when we are at Milford Sound.
We had also prayed hard in hope that we can catch a glimpse of the playful dolphins during the cruise, but no luck. However, as a consolation we managed to see some seals sun-tanning on the rocks and a few little penguins along the shore.
