First Solo Trip - Australia

Many would ask, why do you want to travel alone, why not find some friends to travel together, it is not safe for a girl to travel alone, and it would be much more fun with travel companions and you can look out for each other when travelling together.

Travelling solo is something I had always wanted to try out at least for once in my lifetime.
In May 2015, I finally had the opportunity to do so after I left my job to take a long break, and started making my travel plans.

Taking a long break triggered all the travel plans and actions. As Scoots air tickets are on promotional deal. The air ticket price was really cheap that I could not resist; $360 all-in for a returned ticket to Sydney. I have either exhausted most of my travel buddies' annual leave or they are unavailable to travel during the promotional period, that is when the solo travelling idea float across my mind and made up my mind; solo travel is the way to go. Australia was the destination that I had chosen, simply because I have never been to Australia and I have never been to an ang-mo (Caucasian) country.

Solo travelling for 3 weeks in Australia has been a great life experience, in retrospect it
was one of the best thing I’ve ever done. I was able to embrace the solitude and peacefulness of travelling and exploring alone.

Through this solo journey, I have learnt that part of the “real” journey is to overcome the fear of the unknown. You will learn that the world is actually not that dangerous, and gained some travel smarts and learn that you can trust people. I have also learnt to understand more about myself than I could ever imagine. Especially about being open to people I do not know. I have found that as a solo female traveller, people are more open with me and more welcoming. People were mostly very helpful, telling me when to get off the bus and where to take the buses and so on; they were very concerned about a young woman travelling alone and wanted to make sure that I am okay.
Another thing that I have learnt is being independent. Having said that, It is not to say that I was not independent before I took my first solo trip, but until you have organised and sorted out everything on your own, making quick decisions along the journey and taking care of yourself without someone to lean on, you are never really independent right?

In all, solo travel is a worthwhile venture and I would still go for solo trips again someday…
